The Antrobus family simply wants to live peacefully in New Jersey, but three times in a row they find themselves confronted with apocalyptic scenarios like an ice age, a flood, and war. Despite these catastrophes, the family repeatedly proves remarkably resilient, finding ways from chaos to a new life. In this human revue, space and time seem to be suspended: a dinosaur and a mammoth graze in the front yard, while Homer and Moses seek asylum, or the great philosophers appear as planets in a nightly dance…

Shortly before Hitler's declaration of war on the United States, Wilder wrote this hilariously funny and profoundly disturbing play in 1942, which became a worldwide hit. Alongside the bitter realization that humanity must always accept evil as a part of itself, there is an unwavering belief in humanistic values.
