Symphony of a thousand
The greatest success the composer ever experienced: the applause lasted twenty minutes at the premiere of Mahler's Eighth, called the »Symphony of a Thousand«, which was applauded by famous contemporaries such as Thomas Mann: a symphony with choirs and soloists, which also combines a Latin hymn with a scene from Goethe's »Faust«.
A monumental work with an outstanding cast
Mahler's symphony will be performed by an exquisite cast at the Wiener Konzerthaus, including Ying Fang, Wiebke Lehmkuhl and Tareq Nazmi. Andris Nelsons conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in three performances of this monumental work.
