The Rocky Horror Show

Janet and Brad surely never imagined where a little „jump to the left“ might lead them. How could they have guessed that the castle—whose gates the newly engaged couple knocks on after a late-night flat tire—would turn out to be an extraterrestrial, queer parallel world ruled by a narcissistic autocrat with a latent streak of violence?

The boss of this colorful crowd from the planet Transsexual in the galaxy of Transylvania is Frank’n’Furter, a mad scientist with serious sex appeal. Thanks to him, Janet and Brad are able to at least question some of their heteronormative, uptight attitudes. A good thing, too! But how does Rocky—created in classic Frankenstein style—feel about the role of sex object assigned to him by Frank’n’Furter? And how much longer will Magenta, Riff Raff, and the other castle inhabitants remain content cheering for Frank’n’Furter and disposing of body parts for him?

The Rocky Horror Show began as a daring experiment on a small studio stage; initially, the film version was a commercial flop. Yet, from day one, it has been a home and a celebration for the queer community. As is often the case, the so-called mainstream took a little longer to catch on—but then embraced the musical and film all the more enthusiastically, cementing their status as absolute cult classics. Now, 50 (!) years after the film’s release, the Landestheater is once again inviting you to „do the Time Warp again!“

By the way: An active audience has always been part of the Rocky Horror Show experience! We look forward to that, too. Please keep the following points in mind:

Transylvanian or Tyrolean, in garter belts or traditional jackets, in drag, in an evening gown, or in sweatpants: Come however you feel comfortable, and respect how others feel comfortable!
Laughing, crying, gasping, shouting out, dancing along—we welcome anything that expresses our shared joy! Props such as newspapers, rubber gloves, party hats, or small flashlights are welcome; however, in the interest of sustainability and out of respect for our beautiful hall, fellow audience members, and our cleaning staff, we ask that you refrain from spraying water, throwing rice, confetti, or any other objects, and using lighters or sparklers. Food is also best left at home rather than brought into the theater hall.
When leaving the hall, please take all your belongings with you and leave your seat exactly as you found it. Thank you for your consideration - here’s to legendary evenings!

Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck (English: Tyrolean State Theatre) is the state theatre in Innsbruck, Austria, located near the historic Altstadt (Old Town) section of the city. The theatre is surrounded by Imperial Hofburg, the Hofgarten, and SOWI Faculty of the University of Innsbruck. The main theatre has about 800 seats and the studio theatre in the basement has around 250. Plays, operas, operettas, musicals and dance theatre are performed at the theatre.
