Peter Pan - Ballett
30.11.2025 - 25.03.2026 | Wiener Volksoper
Peter Pan returns to the stage of the Volksoper Vienna! This enchanting family ballet, based on J. M. Barrie’s beloved novel, takes audiences young and old on a magical journey full of adventure and imagination.
Choreographer Vesna Orlić brings the story of the boy who wouldn’t grow up to life – with Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys and Girls, the Darling children, and the unforgettable Neverland.
“Growing up is such a barbarous business... full of inconveniences,” says Captain Hook. Luckily, there’s still Peter Pan!
Synopsis:
ACT 1
Wendy and her brothers John and Michael live with their parents and a nanny in London. As they often do, the siblings reenact the adventures of Peter Pan before going to bed. Shortly after they fall asleep, Peter Pan himself flies in through the window, accompanied by the fairy Tinker Bell. Peter is looking for his shadow. When he finds it and it refuses to stick to his body, Wendy helps him sew it on. The children accept Peter‘s invitation and fly with him to Neverland, where children never grow up...
As they approach the island, Peter Pan and his guests are attacked by Captain Hook. The pirate has had his eye on Peter for a long time! But Hook himself is also always on his guard, because the crocodile that devoured his hand, which the Captain has since replaced with an iron hook, is relentlessly pursuing him. Since the reptile swallowed his watch, its ticking announces its approach from afar.
The Lost Children wait for their leader Peter Pan in their secret dwelling, but Tinker Bell returns to the children alone. She is jealous of Wendy and wants her to disappear from Neverland. In Peter Pan‘s name, she orders the Lost Children to shoot down the ‘Wendy bird’. They carry out the order and are very frightened when not a bird but a girl flutters down from the sky.
ACT 2
Fortunately, Wendy is unharmed! However, Peter is very angry with Tinker Bell for putting his friend in such danger. As punishment, he banishes the fairy for a few days.
Another girl, Tiger Lily, is also in danger. She has been kidnapped by Captain Hook. The pirate wants her to tell him where Peter Pan is, but she refuses to reveal his whereabouts. As punishment, she is to be abandoned on a rock in the water, but Tiger Lily is rescued by Peter in time.
Now Hook wants to capture Peter Pan by trickery and orders his men to track down Tinker Bell. Hook is convinced that she will betray Peter‘s hiding place out of jealousy, and he is proven right. Peter Pan, Wendy and Tiger Lily reach the islanders‘ village. There they meet the Lost Children and Wendy‘s brothers. Thanks to Peter Pan, Wendy and the sirens rescuing Tiger Lily, the islanders and the children become friends and celebrate exuberantly.
As the children set off for their hideout, Peter Pan and Wendy get into an argument. Wendy is jealous of Tiger Lily because she kissed Peter. Angered, Peter Pan leaves Wendy behind.
The girl goes to the hideout with the other children and reads stories to them. After everyone has fallen asleep, the pirates break into the children‘s underground dwelling and capture them. The pirate Mr Smee leaves a bottle of poison for Peter Pan. When Peter returns to the hideout thirsty, he immediately wants to drink from the bottle. Tinker Bell rushes over and prevents this at the last moment by swallowing the poison herself. The fairy dies instantly, but Peter knows how to help her. He repeats the same sentence over and over again: ‘I believe in fairies...’ and Tinker Bell begins to shine again.
Meanwhile, the pirates celebrate their supposed victory over Peter Pan. At the last second, Peter rescues Wendy and the Lost Children with the help of his shadow. When the clumsy Mr Smee comes on board with a large bomb, all the pirates jump into the water in panic. Immediately afterwards, a loud ticking sound is heard. The crocodile is approaching, and Hook and the pirates try to escape. The children take over the pirate ship and sail home happily.
Back in London, the siblings recount their adventures. Their parents dismiss their stories as dreams and put the three of them to bed. The children fall asleep and Peter Pan returns to Neverland.
