Leïla Slimani reads from her new novel
The French-Moroccan bestselling author and Prix Goncourt winner Leïla Slimani reads from her new novel. Following »The country of others« and »Look at us dance«, »I'll take the fire« is the conclusion of her acclaimed family trilogy.
Literary journey between Paris and Morocco
»I'll take the fire« centres on two sisters in search of freedom and identity: Mia, a successful writer in Paris, is struggling with a »brain fog« and, on the advice of her doctor, returns to Morocco – to Meknès, the place of her childhood. There she remembers the tense relationship with her sister Ines. Her return becomes a journey to herself and to the women in her family, who are all fighting for freedom and self-determination in their own way.
Reading, music and discussion
Leïla Slimani reads in French, the German translation is performed by a narrator. Singer Basma Jabr and oud player Orwa Saleh will provide atmospheric musical accompaniment. Afterwards, the author will speak in English about the themes of her novel.
