Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Krystian Zimerman and Rafał Blechacz – have all won the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, which is organised every five years and is one of the most important events of its kind. At the most recent edition in October 2025, Eric Lu came out on top against 84 competitors. This was the first time an American had won the competition –, the last time this was achieved 55 years ago by 77-year-old Garrick Ohlsson, who now chairs the jury.

... about Frédéric Chopin
In his debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus, he demonstrates his skills with two impromptus by Franz Schubert as well as works by Frédéric Chopin, whose music he particularly appreciates: »His music has a direct connection to human emotions, which are naturally very diverse. And it has a connection to the human psyche. His works are first and foremost beautiful, but also tragic and charming. This immediacy, this beauty in his music is so obvious, which makes it so attractive to people all over the world.«
