Opera in Roma - Joseph Haydn – The Creation
31.05.2026 | 20:30 | St. Paul`s Within The Walls Church
In the evocative setting of St. Paul\'s Within the Walls Church, the audience is invited to
experience a concert of great artistic and spiritual value. Fifteen years after their last Italian
tour, the Juilliard415—the period-instrument ensemble of the celebrated Juilliard School of
New York—returns to Rome.
At the heart of the program lies The Creation (Die Schöpfung) by Joseph Haydn, one of the
most profound and moving works in the classical repertoire. In this masterpiece, the dramatic power of the text merges with a musical language rich in lyricism and expressive tension, creating a deeply moving sonic meditation.
The performance features the Juilliard415 orchestra and the Yale Schola Cantorum choir,
conducted by Grete Pedersen, one of the most renowned conductors on the international choral scene. The continuous dialogue between solo voices, choir, and orchestra finds its natural and ideal setting within the sacred atmosphere of the church.

St Paul's Within the Walls (Italian: San Paolo dentro le mura), also known as the American Church in Rome, is a church of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe on Via Nazionale in Castro Pretorio, Rome. It was the first Protestant church to be built in Rome. Designed by English architect George Edmund Street in Gothic Revival style, it was built in polychrome brick and stone, and completed in 1880.
The church contains mosaics which are the largest works of the English Pre-Raphaelite artist Edward Burne-Jones.
