Every man calls her by a different name. Because for them, Lulu is just one thing: a surface onto which they project their desires and desires, but also their fears.
The men who succumb to her and perish because of her cannot and do not want to know who Lulu really is. But therein lies the tragedy of Lulu, who kills Dr. Schön, the only person who really means something to her, and ultimately falls victim to the murderer of women, Jack the Ripper, as a run-down prostitute in London.
Synopsis:
ACT ONE
Dr. Schön and Alwa both watch the painter, smitten, as he paints Lulu's portrait. After they leave, Lulu seduces the painter. She is surprised by the elderly medical officer, Lulu's husband. He collapses, seemingly struck dead, but Lulu is not particularly bothered. Lulu marries the painter, who, having learned about Lulu's past from Dr. Schön, takes his own life. This, too, seems to have little effect on Lulu. Dr. Schön is engaged to a respected bourgeois woman. When he enters the theater with her, where Lulu is employed as a dancer, she manages to persuade him to break off his engagement.
ACT TWO
Lulu has married Dr. Schön. During her marriage, all sorts of men appear: the valet, the high school student, the athlete, the old man, the lesbian Countess Geschwitz, and finally Alwa. When Dr. Schön finds Lulu surrounded by men, he tries to force her to shoot herself and gives her a revolver. Lulu kills her husband with five shots. Alwa calls the police. Lulu is tried and convicted, but escapes from prison with Geschwitz's help. Her accomplices, Rodrigo, the high school student, Geschwitz, and Alwa, are waiting for her. Lulu seduces Alwa and marries him.
ACT THREE
The now 30-year-old Lulu is the center of a demimonde and is simultaneously surrounded by accomplices who know about her criminal act; they are blackmailing her. The Marquis, Rodrigo, and Schigolch demand money and threaten to call the police. Lulu collapses for the first time, has to flee, and escapes with Alwa by exchanging clothes with a stable boy. Completely destitute, they reappear in London with Schigolch and the Geschwitz. Lulu has to take to the streets to earn money. A customer kills Alwa. Finally, Jack the Ripper arrives; he kills Lulu and the Countess.
