A biographical novel about Dmitri Shostakovich
How can art be created despite the fear of death from a totalitarian regime? What is the relationship between art and oppression, dictatorship and creativity? Is it reprehensible to bow to power in order to be able to work artistically? Julian Barnes »The Noise of Time« addresses these questions. In his artist's novel, the British author thematises Dmitri Shostakovich's eventful life in Stalin's Russia. The well-known actor Markus Hering will read. Antonia Straka on the violoncello and Anton Gerzenberg on the piano will play music by the Russian composer in between.
