Klaus Maria Brandauer reads: “I want to learn to believe” by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
25.06.2026 | 19:00 | Wiener Burgtheater
Klaus Maria Brandauer, a member of the Burgtheater ensemble and an honorary member of the Burgtheater, reads excerpts from Dietrich Bonhoeffer\\\'s letters and writings from his imprisonment. Bonhoeffer is internationally renowned as a prominent theologian and courageous resistance fighter against National Socialism. He forged connections with resistance circles and, beyond the Confessing Church, belonged to the resistance against Hitler before being arrested in 1943 and murdered by the Nazis in the Flossenbürg concentration camp prison shortly before the end of the war, along with other members of the military resistance.
The letters and writings he produced during his imprisonment bear witness to his steadfastness, wisdom, and confidence under the most oppressive conditions. The reading will be accompanied by cellist Maria Magdalena Wiesmaier.
