A desire that alienates you from yourself: there are many readings of the »Schönen Müllerin«, from Franz Schubert's music to texts by Wilhelm Müller. Johannes Maria Staud initially approaches it via the finest tonal calibrations in his instrumentation for ensemble and, with new compositions to texts by the poet Emily Dickinson, gives the Müllerin her own voice, her own experience of the hopeless entanglements.
