Young Elisabeth finds herself in a precarious situation: she needs 150 marks to avoid a prison sentence. She comes up with the idea of ​​selling her body to the Anatomical Institute for scientific purposes while she is still alive, hoping this will offer her a way out of her seemingly hopeless predicament. Her plan ultimately fails, and her burgeoning love for the policeman Alfons Klostermeyer also puts her in a difficult position. To protect the relationship, she decides not to mention her criminal record. Her problems become overwhelming. Finally, ostracized by society, Elisabeth sees no other way out than to drown herself. Her explanation: “Because I have nothing left to eat.“

In her production of the 1932 play, director Lucia Bihler takes a look at the hopelessness and helplessness of people in precarious economic situations and goes in search of new perspectives for Elisabeth.
