Confusion of the Roman Baroque
Men in female roles and absurdly high male roles, women singing trouser roles – were commonplace in Baroque opera. This was partly the result of ideological regulations (no women on the opera stage in Rome!) and partly due to the aesthetic preferences of the time. This year's dinner concert with arias and instrumental music of predominantly Roman provenance is part of the »portrait of Dorothee Oberlinger« of the current season. At the dazzling centre of this virtuoso interplay of the sexes is the Brazilian star soprano Bruno de Sá, who will be making his Konzerthaus debut as part of this 34th »Resonanzen« and will reliably generate storms of enthusiasm with his phenomenal voice and enormous stage presence.
