Bach in Space
Fascinating images of the universe on a large screen accompanied by the music of Johann Sebastian Bach
Distant galaxies, star nebulae, black holes – the universe closer than ever! On a huge screen, razor-sharp NASA images shine in colours otherwise only seen in science fiction films. Mona Asuka, one of the outstanding pianists of her generation, plays the music of Johann Sebastian Bach – live, sometimes powerfully, sometimes delicately, always surprisingly. The result: a concert that feels like a journey through space and time.
Image and music merge, the gaze wanders into infinity – and suddenly Bach's music seems so modern and timeless, as if it had only just been written for this moment. The first performances in Munich have already shown how much the concept inspires: »Ein überirdischer Bach« wrote the Münchner Merkur. And the portal »Kultur in München« reported: »During the performance, the people of Munich are visibly captivated – by the vastness and depth of the crystal-clear, high-resolution images, by the finely curated selection of Bach's repertoire and by the precise realisation.«
In April 2026, Bach in Space will debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus. The programme will include highlights such as excerpts from the »Well-Tempered Clavier«, the »Goldberg Variations« and the »Italian Concerto«. Great classics – experienced anew, in a setting that guarantees goosebumps.
»Bach in Space« is more than just classical music: an experience for all those who want to experience music and the cosmos in a new dimension.
